This Privacy Policy explains how TLDR Summary ("we", "our", or "the app") collects, uses, and protects information when you use our Android application. By using TLDR Summary you agree to the practices described below.
1. Information We Collect
We collect the minimum information necessary to operate the app:
- Account information – email address and display name when you register or sign in with Google.
- Usage data – daily summary count, subscription tier, and trial status, stored to enforce plan limits and sync across devices.
- On-screen text – text you choose to summarise is sent to our AI backend for processing. It is not stored permanently and is not linked to your account.
- Crash and diagnostic data – anonymised crash reports via Firebase Crashlytics to help us fix bugs.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To authenticate you and keep your subscription tier in sync across devices.
- To enforce daily request limits based on your plan.
- To process text summaries via our AI backend.
- To diagnose crashes and improve app stability.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
3. AI Processing
When you request a summary, the selected on-screen text is sent to a secure cloud function which forwards it to an AI model (such as Anthropic Claude, OpenAI GPT, or Google Gemini) to generate a response. Text submitted for summarisation is used solely for that request and is not stored, logged, or used to train AI models by us.
Please review the privacy policies of the underlying AI providers if you have concerns about how they handle API inputs.
4. Third-Party Services
TLDR Summary uses the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:
- Firebase (Google) – authentication, cloud database (Firestore), and crash reporting.
- Google Play Billing – subscription management. We do not store your payment details.
- Google Sign-In – optional sign-in method; only your email and name are accessed.
5. Data Storage and Security
Account and usage data is stored in Firebase Firestore, a cloud database operated by Google. Data is transmitted over HTTPS. We do not store payment information — all transactions are handled by Google Play.
6. Accessibility Service
TLDR Summary uses Android's Accessibility Service to read visible on-screen text when you explicitly request a summary. This permission is used only to retrieve text for summarisation and for no other purpose. The service does not log keystrokes, passwords, or any data other than the text present on screen at the moment of your request.
7. Children's Privacy
TLDR Summary is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can delete it.
8. Your Rights
You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by:
- Using the Delete Account option within the app (Settings → Account), or
- Contacting us at the email address below.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
